I'm afraid not. There should be documentation on the Net how to
build up to 32K expansion memory, which could be useful for many
occasions.

The Oric (according to Jonathan Bristow, Twilighte) uses AY-3-8912.
It has, like VIC-I, three square waves + noise, but each channel has
10 octaves (14 bit) compared to VIC's 4.5 (7 bits, overlapping).
Each chananel has its own volume control or can be handled by an
envelope generator with eight patterns. As my main area is music,
I believe I can see a clear advantage here.

I really thought the ULA in Oric had hardware sprites, but it seems
not. But maybe the difference in graphics capacities isn't there,
it's just different way to address the graphics.
