V-Box part II

Hola Hackers,

I made myself a simple Y/C -> S-Video cable last night for the V-Box. My
NTSC machine was hooked up, and the difference is quite noticable, as
expected. Interlaced graphics seem to flicker considerably less
(presumably due to more accurate colors), and many of the problems I
observed earlier -- scrolling graphics flickering, colors turning to
black -- seem to have disappeared. So, thumbs up.

Then I hooked up my PAL machine, and there was good 'ol flickery PAL... IN
COLOR! Hoo-ah. So I finally got to watch Altered States in color. I ran
a few other more tedious demos (Mathematica, Extremes, etc.) just to test
things out, and everything looks great. One oddity is that on the
blue-on-blue startup screen there is some purple/red in every other
column. It reminds me of an Apple II display. Presumably some color
combinations again lead to funny color interpretations, but I did not
observe anything similar when running the demos.

So I'm just a happy camper.

I want to emphasize that the picture really does look nice. I expected a
"thicker" picture, like what happens on the Amiga when promoting modes,
but it seems somehow different to me. Lines with slope=1 really look
_straight_, colors look good, and so on.

Thumbs up!

-Steve
