I've got it going in C64 mode using the C128 monitor to enter the
instructions. The MSB is fairly consistently 37, occassionally 36. The LSB
is all sorts of different numbers. However, this is with the screen
enabled, so I suspect much of the variation is due to VIC DMA. Time to try
it on lots of other machines. I'd be grateful to hear anyone else's
results. I'll post the BASIC handler and m/c binary in .prg formats when I
get X1541 working again. (could be a while so feel free to type in the
program yourself!)
