Maybe this is the same clicking as in Amiga floppy drives?

In Amiga floppy drives there is a "disk changed" detector which is
latched, and stepping the head resets the latch. Originally AmigaOS
would step between two tracks every second or so; later versions simply
stepped outwards and relied on the head not going further than track 0
(without making further noise).
