Only the disassembly could tell if, whatever extra functions it has, 
are used. I was indeed thinking about soldering one using an 
ordinary 765. 

Hmmm, Aliexpress sells the GM82C765B, the 40 pins DIL version for 
about $1. The ones with a good picture $1.50. The square version 
would cost about $5.
