Maybe it's a language thing, but while one may make individual errors in judgment I don't see how trust or belief can be 'correct' or 'incorrect' in a general objective sense, any more than belief in God or love etc.

But I do agree with you (!); assuming that his tongue-in-cheek point was that _all_ ebay sellers are dishonest and therefore not trusting them is just being realistic, that is indeed cynicism to the extreme.

Your view on the other hand seems to be more skeptical than cynical, admittedly with some self-protective bias that could perhaps be called cynicism.
