In the year of 2018, who uses a mailer where you can't configure your
from: address but can configure your reply-to: address?

Or is this a way to get around SMTP servers which will only allow mails
from certain domains?

This usage seems like some residue from the command line mail in UNIX
machies from the 80's and early 90's...
