 From my understanding of how the emulators work and my limited 
schematic skills, there is a technical limitation.

Like on the c64 where the vic always sees character generator rom at 
certain locations, the way the p500 coordinates the switching between 
static ram/character generator rom and dram is quite limited in what it 
will let you do.
