Hi,

I have 2 of this drive and I upgraded them to the -03 1541-II firmware long 
ago. I hated the sound of head banging at power up and reset.
They are working fine since that. I have even installed Jiffy DOS to one of 
them (the 1541-II version).

Try upgrading to -03 from 1541-II
