Well, atleast some hifi brands system control cable protocol is reverse
engineered, so for example on a JVC it would be trivial to control
play/pause. IIRC the protocol is so simple so you could generate the
required serial bitstream commands with simple shift registers :)

Or you could hack kernal to use motor on/off to send those commands
directly, then you could control everything from software :)
