But those aren't 100% copies of the original XT. IBM PC and XT used a
set of dip switches where two of them (iirc) set the number of floppy
drives.

Newer XT:s like for example "Schneider EuroPC" used a software setup as
on more modern PC's. (Commodore A2088 used a config file on the Amiga
side IIRC).
