New findings:

The 8 bit data from the RAM goes via two 74LS86 (for inverting the screen)
and a 74LS244 driver to the character data-rom-bus. If the 74LS244 is
activated to insert graphics with lo at select pins 1+19, the char-rom is
disabled with lo at pin 21 (CS3 at 2316). But at my 2716 in the card it is
VPP!.

Is a 2716 disabled with lo at VPP or is it an undefined / not allowed
condition???
