I'm sorry for your loss. If you had been buying knockoff Genesis controllers 
at $2 each including shipping from China instead of repurposing RS-232 
cables at $7 each, the short circuit would be less likely to happen.

I know which solution I would prefer, financially and practically, even if 
it is not Made in the U.S.A.
