I'm sounding out ideas, when they are complete then I'm capable of
emailing him.

I haven't said anything sucked.

In terms of your examples, I bought one of the first 1541u2 (I had
missed out on ordering the original) & I think it's great. I had to hack
the tape adapter to make it fit my c128, although I think eventually he
changed the pcb. AFAIK he doesn't have a c128, but has always been
amenable to fixing issues. He even spent time trying to make it work
with the sx64 & the cartridge ports on those are flakey by design.

Neither the sd2iec or chameleon fit my needs. I don't think it's
possible for the sd2iec to ever fit my needs, so I wouldn't bother
discussing it with anyone. However the chameleon vic snooping can't work
on the c128 due to differences in the PLA & at first they weren't
prepared to support the c128 in a limited capacity. I tried to pursuade
them but they said no, their attitude cost them a sale. I think they
eventually changed their mind, but by then I'd already bought the 1541u2.

I'm a huge fan of Gideons creations, I don't want there to be a reason
for me to resist buying one of these.
However I'm hoping he isn't doing it just for appreciation, because
putting your hapiness on the whim of others is a dangerous game. It's
his hobby, he could play sports or collect stamps instead. Although this
also makes him a bit of pocket money as well.

I have contributed to a few open source projects over the years, the
people who do it for appreciation either don't last long or become
unbearable to work with. I tend to not talk about the work I do, it
creeps me out when people start acting weird and being grateful.
