Maybe the cable you remember (two wires) is the one in the front of the motherboard. It takes the 9V to the user port - only the 1001006 board doesn't have that cable but uses traces on the pcb.
324003 boards use connectors, CR board have the wire welded.

The wires I'm talking about are on the back of the pcb :-)
