I'm not sure that with the differences in processes in the last 30 years 
that it would be that simple. Especially if you want to keep all the 
side effects that were never designed in.

An FPGA based c64 with all the ports and a core based on the original 
chip layouts would be awesome.
But then so would another c64 reloaded run.
