As far as I understand, there are at least three internally different 
pinouts on the AppleTalk 8-pin mini-DIN.

Assuming those are straight connected (TXD to TXD etc) it still is 
possible that some pins might be NC in your cable, which might be an 
issue when used as a drive cable between the Commodore 65 and floppy 
drive, in case it expects all wires to be connected.
