Giving a target is probably even better than only dis- or enabling PETSCII. It will indeed automatically cover other differences.

My assembler doesn't support | for the simple reason that I never needed it. And therefore I didn't think of it. Another feature to add to my assembler :)

I'm not familiar enough with CA65 to understand what this means. My guess: using .org probably means you cannot reallocate BINs? Then my question: is that a problem for generating these particular BINs? 
Anyway, if someone wants to use the sources for his own purposes and .org doesn't suit him, he can replace them by more suitable directives.
