Well, my C2N232 for the AT90S2313 and later ATtiny2313 did much of this 
(and other features) in a smaller footprint, and in AVR assembler code, 
more than 10 years ago. Now, this guy is using an ATmega series 
microcontroller clocked at twice the speed, and equipped with much more 
memory. What is new is that this device is stand-alone (working without 
a cable connection to a PC). The user interface consists of an SD card 
connector, a few buttons and and a HD44780 LCD.

I wonder what this would look like with a decent circuit board and case.
