I learned about it long time ago as many vim tutorials tell you to use

Yep, I know. But I have a lazy excuse: I do not give any user-provided
input there, it is all "in the script".

But you are right, one should do it always right, so chances are less
that it will slip accidentially into some script that is not safe for
use.
