The part I find not covered well enough is why (except that Jim didn’t like the Kryoflux API) did he has to build this or why would he need an adaptor for the original floppy if the idea behind Kryoflux (and Catweasel) is to use any properly working 5.25 drive. The only reason I can think of is if the Compucolor’s drives had a highly non-standard track pitch that couldn’t be covered with standard drive’s stepper. If that’s not the case then why?
