This is interesting. Try disassembling the routines - perhaps they make
accesses to hardware in the C64's I/O space. Commodore originally planned
to make a fast disk drive system for the C64 before the 264 series came
along and got it instead. The early C64 Programmers Reference Guides show
$DExx reserved for the CP/M cartridge and $DFxx reserved for a fast
(parallel) disk drive interface.

Is there anything at all different from the 1541 versions of these files?
