I prefer Merlin too (actually Merlin 128 which is a text editor environment,
Merlin 64 has darned line numbers)

For the 64 I use Lew Lasher's 'EA' (Editor Assember) also a Text
Editor/Assembler environment like Merlin 128 (though not too many bells and
whistles).  It isn't fast but the source is easily readable.
