the patching i am talking about is unrelated to virtual devices actually (and 
the patching related to virtual devices would still happen if they are 
enabled) - its the patching that allows to use different kernal revisions 
without needing to have binaries of all of them.... i think xpet does similar 
stuff for the editor roms (and maybe others too) and that may also fail if 
unknown roms are used. or maybe not, i dont know :)
