Traditionally, when we wanted to use a different BASIC, we either:
1. plugged in a cartridge,
2. loaded something from tape/disk, or
3. copied the ROM into RAM, then poked it.

Ted probably is one of very few people who ever thought seriously about creating a drop-in replacement ROM for the BASIC
interpreter.

The Kernal was a different story. We almost always need safe access to it -- no matter how we are using the computer. So, there
was an incentive to make replacements that are "permanent" drop-ins.
