I know that we have no other choices...
But at least it could be down correctly and at least all the commodore parts could be removed 
(not only the one on socket) and carefully stored...

I received some components (a TED an plus4 PLA)on Styrofoam... never seen anything worse for static electricity

There are many TED on the market (ebay / specialized shop but no 6529 simply because they are soldered)

Well, since these components are not manufactured anymore, what choice do we have? Nobody has built a TED replacement yet ;-)
