FLASH ROM on VIC-20?

I've gotten a request to add some FLASH ROM on a VIC-MIDI cart under 
design and I am looking for a simple design to add that functionality.

I can't find any schematics for MegaCart, and the VIC-20 Final Expansion 
uses a CPLD, which I'd prefer to avoid for adding such a simple item to 
this cartridge if possible.

If someone has a link or information on a design, I'd be most appreciative.

I am assuming one would map the ROM into BLK5 (autostart bank), and put 
a bank register in IO space along with the MIDI registers to handle the 
high address lines.  My VIC knowledge is limited, though, and I'm not 
sure if /W works on BLK5.
