It's not 'spikes'. It's that the chip is fast enough that when changing 
a color register on the fly while being displayed the output sequencer 
grabs '1111' for a moment which will show up as a grey dot.

TED does the same but there it's light green... The 6569 is not fast 
enough for that to happen.
