Well, I on the other hand, discovered the list only recently, so I 
learned a lot by browsing the old archives. If they weren't available, I 
would not be able to recover this knowledge in any other way :-)

Yes, email addresses should be masked, in a way similar to what Google 
does with putting NNTP newsgroup contents on Google Groups. But the 
archives themselves is a very valuable resource, and I think it's 
important for them to be available publicly.
