You can buy on ebay, but you have to read the descriptions and examine 
any posted pictures carefully. Don't expect to get more than what is 
described.

I did manage to pick up an almost unused C64 (original breadbin design 
from 1983) on ebay. Does look and work like new.

Does your friend have any prerequisites (case, mainboard rev...) or will 
any C64 do?
