MOS chips

Hello,

here's a question I always wondered about... You can find chips with MOS 
or CSG logo that tell you on the underside they were made in different 
countries like Thailand, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. You can also see 
from the package forms that there were different factories involved.

 From what I remember, the only factory that actually made the dies was 
MOS technology in the USA. Did they really ship the wafers halfway 
around the world just to have the dies cut, tested and packaged?
