One interesting anecdote might be this: Is the PET a naughty word in 
French? Did this affect the marketing in some way?

For comparison, the VIC-20 was renamed to the VC-20 in German markets, 
because the German pronounciation of V as F would make VIC pronounced as 
the English F word.
