To complete this thread, the parts CMD used are indeed Advanced 
Interconnect Peel-A-Way headers.

I'll put pics up later tonight, but they shipped me KA624 and KA628 samples.  In short, they are DIP IC headers with no body, just the thin film holding everything together.

I priced 40 pin versions, for uZoomFloppy and other things.  They are not cheap, $3.09 per, and 2.75/unit in 500 piece batches.

Anyone interested in them besides me?
