They are on my board. Any ideas which one is more likely to be the cause,
or should I replace both of them right away?

I get random colors in 40 column mode.

I recall using the keyboard to type some chars, change colors, etc. I even
tried typing LOAD"$",8 (a few times actually, to make sure I didn't mistype
anything). To my misfortune, the drive didn't come up. :(

I could never laugh at the man who made the "herdware" possible.
In fact, I feel quite privileged talking to you.
Still, I can't take your advice. The machine looks so brand new that
I try to leave as few fingerprints on it as possible. Using saliva is
out of the question. :) Maybe as a last resort...
