Thanks Olofsson, Though I doubt I'll find anyone local with a C64, I will
keep this in mind and test if and when I can.

If the D64 works in NTSC mode in VICE, it sounds like your C64 is
acting up. If you're using a fastloader, try disabling that - they're
often more lax when it comes to error checking and can mask load
errors. I'd also verify the transferred D64 by reading it back on the
PC, and testing again there. A marginal C64 PSU can also cause
instability, try a second one.
