Hallo allemaal,

Correction: They can be used but not by the 1541-DOS. Track 0 is used to
tell the DOS that a sector is the last one of the file. So using the DOS
to address a sector on track 0 will cause an error. But there is nothing
against addressing it directly using IDE commands. FYI: I use track 0 to
store the BAM, saving 32 sectors in this way.

Why track 255 cannot be used, I don't know for sure yet. I only can tell
you that I got a lot of unexplainable errors when addressing track 255,
errors that disappeared when I limited the partition to track 254. IMHO
the reason is that the DOS uses the value $FF quite often to set a
variable to inactive. Again: no problems when using IDE commands.
