Perhaps you could ask Gideon (creator of 1541 Ultimate)? His firmware is 
FAT32 capable, the soft CPU is 6502-compatible and he wanted to make the 
sources open sooner or later. Dunno, if it is written in C, though, as 
he luckily has 20 Mhz.
