I've been in sporadic contact with Steve Croucher who is someone who
actually had a a 1581 that had been modified with a HD mechanism and
the necessary ROM. He no longer has the drive but he thinks he may
have a dump of the ROM which he's willing to share. If he finds it,
I'll make sure everyone gets a copy.
The one thing in the exchange you quoted that smells fishy is that the
poster talks about the drive having 1.44MB of storage whereas my
understanding is that the ROM provided 1.76MB of storage just like a
HD drive on an Amiga.
Regardless, it would be nice to find this ROM.
