I have a scan of the complete code and took your advice. And in the
weekend I found that some names and addresses of the 4040 code didn't
match with the ones I was using in my 1541 code. That's how I found out
that I made a mistake somewhere with my disassembler by giving an
address the wrong name. After making a correction in my ASM file the
number 13 did make sense again.
The reason why I'm going to all that code is that I want to change it so
it is capable of handling a harddisk a) using LBA and b) using a 4 byte
pointer instead of the now used track/sector pointer. But before being
able to change it, one must understand it. And the inheritance of the
dual drive past doesn't make things easier.
I had the idea of supporting two drives but I'm thinking of dropping
this one. But I will keep the Backup command; copying the complete
content of the first disk to a second one.
You'll understand that I need another way to handle the BAM as well but
here I will look at the sources of the 8x50.
Anyway, any ideas are welcome!
Regarding the hardware: a 74LS139, an IDE connector, three resistors, a
LED and some wire can do the trick. OK, only 8 bits and thus waisting
half of the capacity of the drive but it has it advances as well. If you
are curious for more info, just ask.
