Scott, that's excellent - please don't feel like your efforts are
wasted! I haven't made the decision to go with a microcontroller just
yet, I'm wondering if it might be easier to just design two separate
boards for the two purposes I have in mind (using the transistor
solution for one) rather than trying to make the one board fit both. I
was just trying to recapture some of that Commodore-style ingenuity by
killing two birds with one multi-purposed stone - but not sure if what I
have in mind will turn out to be a big heavy rock instead! Besides, if
you can make this work then it will be something to point to in the
future the next time this question is asked...
