ATMEL AVR chip suppliers

I've decided go a little bit more hardcore so after a survey of PIC's, 
Basic Stamps etc settled on the ATMEL AVR's to start fooling around 
with. With a programmer on it's way - anyone have good recommendations 
for an ATMEL chip supplier (low minimum shipments ideal) in the US? I 
know they've cheap overall but not sure who is reliable in chip world.
