C=64 cartridge port power

Hi,

I'm currently working on a C=64 cartridge design. I'd like to make something
that's compatible with most if not all C=64 variants out there.

Having read various horror-stories about the C=64 power supplies being
horribly overloaded and occasionally even melting[1], I'm not sure how much
power I can safely get from the C=64 cartridge port.

Does anybody here know of a safe maximum amount of power that's available on
the cartridge port of most C=64 variants?
