Oh, brute force ;-) How about things like a faster GCR decoding
alghorithm (like the 1571), a track cache (various speeders and the
1581)? That should help as well, maybe even more. I also wonder how
effective the hardware GCR decoder in the old dual drives is. Did
someone make performance tests that compare the 2031 (software decode)
with the 4040 (hardware decode)?
