According to the data sheets on funet, the 6545 is a slightly expanded
version of the 6845, but it lacks the interlace modes. One major
difference is that the 6845 has mostly write-only registers, while many
can be read on the 6545. So using a 6845 instead of a 6545 is some sort
of downgrade that might cause trouble. But since it worked on one PET,
it should also work on the other. Maybe some software titles won't work
properly anymore, but that's about all there is to expect.
